Back and neck pain is generally described as an accumulation of unpleasant sensations in your neck, your mid, and/or upper back, and your lower back. 80% of the population suffers from back pain. Back pain can happen for several reasons, it can also be understood in a countless number of ways and may cause symptoms in other parts of the body.

Back pain is most common among females, other factors such as, obesity, osteoporosis, smoking and a lack of exercise are also correlated to back pain. Other contributing factors include, lack of education, living in an urban area, being under 50 (for neck pain) and under 65 (for lower back pain),having emotional difficulties (depression or anxiety) and stress.

The workplace environment can also play a role in spinal pain. Compared to other occupations, office workers tend to get the most spinal pain because they are sitting in the same position for 8 hours.

Spinal pain leads to aching in the following areas: lumbar sacral, the cervical and the coccyx. One of the main ways of alleviating this pain is through narcotics. However, these drugs are highly addictive and have many side effects. Therefore, it is recommended to consider other form of treatment before resulting to narcotics.

Research recommends trying physical therapy and other conservative treatments for six weeks. If the therapy fails to relieve the pain, at that point, surgery may be a possibility.
