Dry needling is a method used to target muscular “trigger points”. Acupuncture refers to a broader scope of practices, based on traditional Chinese medicine which involves the injection of needles to stimulate the flow of energy (or chi) through meridian channels.

Dry needling and acupuncture are similar – they both involve injecting very fine needles into the skin or surface of the muscles to arouse the body’s own pain relief system. These methods can be used with other modalities offered by your physical therapist to help you advance in your treatment.

Physiotherapists at PhysioExperts have furthered their studies and perfected the art of acupuncture and dry needling in order to better serve our clients. We use sterile, single used needles which are disposed of dutifully. They are used as part of an inclusive treatment strategy that also involves hands-on mobilization, exercise, and other techniques. An acupuncturist will insert needles into a person’s body with the goal of balancing their energy. This increases well-being and can help fight off infections.

Specifically, acupuncture and dry needling are used to treat different kinds of complications, such as headaches, problems related to blood pressure, and the whooping cough.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains that health comes from having a harmonious balance of the complementary extremes of “yin” and “yang”. The balance between these two extremes leads to a balanced life force known as “qi” (pronounced “chi”). Illness is said to be the consequence of an imbalance of the forces. Inserting needles into these points with the appropriate combinations are said to rebalance the forces of life.
